Imprint Sport - 1st Birthday
Imprint Sport shoes has celebrated its first birthday, and the successes keep racking up. Horses in all disciplines are finding new form as a result of being fitted with the revolutionary stick on shoe. Not just a substitute for nails, the shoe mimics the elasticity and shock absorbing properties of the natural horn, becoming an extension of the hoof. Developed by Andrew Poynton FWCF and a leading polymer chemist, the highly durable plastics formula brings new meaning to ‘hot shoeing’. Applied in a warmed, softened state, the shoe can be moulded to the foot and finely adjusted, before coating with ‘freezer spray’ to fix it in place.
Says Andrew “Our aim is not just to provide a lifeline for horses which would otherwise be unable to perform or be ridden, but to eventually
revolutionise the whole shoeing process. This is a quantum leap for the farriery industry, and the benefits already, are clearly being seen.”
Horse owners across the disciplines being converted to the Imprint Sport shoe include eventing legend Jane Holderness-Roddam. “We have been running one horse which had problem feet, for a year now in the Imprint Sport shoes. He didn’t have much confidence and was inclined to slip, his movement has improved greatly in these shoes, he seems very happy in them, very confident, and as a result is much more relaxed in his work.
We now have three horses running in Imprint Sport, and it was a great testament to them when the ground was like glue at Hatherleigh; we would not have been surprised to lose one, but our runner finished well, all shoes intact!”
Luckley based trainer Martin Keighley was delighted with a recent win from Rodrigo Gonzales who stormed home under Warren Marston. “Gonzo has very brittle feet and we have been unable to keep traditional shoes on him, but my farrier sourced some Imprint Sport, and they have done the trick. Without them he would not have been able to run as he was too sore with nails.”
As praise for Imprint Sport keeps piling up, farriers continue to train in the application of the shoes; the 500th Imprint training certificate has just been presented to Jonathan Nunn DipWCF of Staffordshire. “I have been on more than one of Andrew’s training courses, however, his products are so unique and constantly evolving, that I always learn something new. I have been using Imprint Sport for sometime, and my clients have been very pleased with the results. Good preparation of the hoof is very important, but once this is in place, application of the shoe is very straightforward.”
